Context

When first tasked with defining our roadmap for the new Distribution pod — a pod dedicated to optimizing how users share and collaborate on Amplitude, I conducted generative research to understand users’ common workflows. We learned that despite having internal capabilities for packaging and sharing insights through Amplitude notebooks and collaborating through comments and mentions, most sharing happens outside of Amplitude.

Users share by taking screenshots and pasting chart links to tools like Slack and Notion because external tools were much faster, they had more access to their teammates, and they housed necessary documentation templates. Our focus for 2022 became meeting users where they were by bringing Amplitude to platforms users were already using.

Outcome

Throughout 2022, we lined up partnerships with Miro, Notion, Slack, and Atlassian and built out integrations on their platforms. From the start to the end of the year, weekly sharing users went from 3k to 6.2k (a 101% increase) and weekly collaborative users (our pillar’s key metric) went from 5.8k to 9.5k (63% increase). An average of ~2200 users engage with our integrations daily.
